Born and raised in the city of Boston of Puerto Rican parents, Daniel Cesar Calderon grew up with a strong affinity for the arts. From middle school to high school he took every art class available, leading to many art awards and certificates along the way, including an art scholarship to the Art Institute of Boston.
In 2001 Daniel took an illustration class in college where the professor challenged the students to "try a new medium...something outside of your comfort zone." So he ventured into the realm of acrylic paint and has made it his preferred method of creating art since. His earlier works were more realistic in nature, influenced by his surroundings (Kansas at the time) of the often forgotten beauty found in nature and objects (fields, trees, cows, horses, old abandoned trucks left in a field, rusty objects, etc.).
Now residing in Phoenix, Arizona (since 2011), Daniel continues to keep nature in his paintings in the form of birds, clouds and cacti but has begun to experiment with more abstract shapes, forms and methods as well.
